North Carolina Botanical Garden Visitor Center

The Education Center is a 30,125 SF new visitor center and education building for the North Carolina Botanical Garden on the campus of UNC Chapel Hill. The project has achieved LEED Platinum Certification and incorporates rainwater collection systems, photovoltaic power generation, high-efficiency heat pumps and geothermal wells, the use of regional materials, passive ventilation, and day lighting. The North Carolina Botanical Garden is committed to excellence in research, university instruction, conservation, plant collections and public programs. The Education Center provides a gateway into the Botanical Garden, helping visitors focus their attention by creating a sense of place and continuity of experience. The building exemplifies a positive union between natural and built environments, becoming a model of sustainability for UNC and the State of North Carolina.
