First Presbyterian Church

Raleigh, NC | 2010 | 42,000 sf

in the office of Frank Harmon Architect PA

This project is a 42,000 SF master plan, renovation, and addition to an historic church campus on a constrained site in downtown Raleigh. The project scope includes renovation to the historic sanctuary, demolition of a derelict education building, and construction of a new 24,000 SF education building. The project incorporates numerous sustainable strategies, including high-efficiency heat pumps and geothermal wells, the use of regional materials, and daylighting. The design process involved close coordination with the City of Raleigh and the Raleigh Historic District Commission. The concept behind the design was to create a more welcoming and vibrant presence for the downtown church.
