Have a Seat

Raleigh, NC | 2009-2011

with YAF

Serving as the Director for AIA Triangle’s Young Architects Forum (YAF) from 2008-2011, Erin Sterling Lewis helped lead several groups of Young Architects through the design, fabrication, and installation of bus benches for the City of Raleigh. The City of Raleigh is home to thousands of citizens who benefit from Capital Area Transit. A story in The News & Observer noted that only 25% of bus stops in Raleigh provide a place for people to sit while waiting for the bus. When members of YAF read this statistic, it was decided that the group’s primary community service project would be called “Have a Seat” - an effort designed to help the City of Raleigh populate bus stops with benches. Since 2009, the group has installed four bus benches on sites across Raleigh.
