December 2017

Happy Holidays from in situ studio! 2017 has been spectacular, and we are really looking forward to kicking off 2018 next Tuesday!

Brian Shawcroft

The Triangle architecture community lost a revered member this month. Recipient of the 1991 Kamphoefner Prize, Brian Shawcroft, AIA, passed away 0n 12 18 17 at the age of 89. With a body of work that spanned over 40 years, Shawcroft designed numerous important modern buildings in the Triangle. Brian was a good friend and regular attendee of events at our office. He had a huge impact on the architecture community through his involvement with the NCSU College of Design, sponsoring an annual drawing competition and scholarship for students. Brian, we are thankful for your contribution to our profession and will miss your enthusiastic spirit!

Raleigh Little Theatre - What We're Up Against

The opening production of Raleigh Little Theatre’s 2018 season - What We’re Up Against - focuses on gender dynamics in the workplace, and specifically on the work environment in an architecture firm in the early 1990s. Opening night is 01 12 18 at Peace College and will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Erin and including Lou Jurkowski, Megan Bowles, and Matt. This will be a timely opportunity for architects, other professionals, and the general public to discuss gender dynamics in the workplace. Buy tickets here.

Atomic Ranch

The Ocotea Residence was the featured article this month in Atomic Ranch's Annual Design Issue. Get your copy on newstands, or here! The story includes new photographs of the house by Keith Isaacs.

US Modernist Radio

On Christmas Day, a podcast aired on NCMH's US Modernist Radio called “Death of a Master Plan: Lewis Clarke and Erin Sterling Lewis.” Lewis Clarke is a landscape architect who was on a team of designers that created the 1965 North Carolina State Capital Plan. The plan is a visionary document that would have had a major impact on our city if executed. Have a look at the plan and listen to the story of this interesting piece of modernist history!

East Raleigh Update

Bob Aiello and team have been braving the frigid weather in East Raleigh the last couple of weeks on two ground up houses. The Kimball Residence is almost fully framed, while the Shackleton House finishes are being installed. With the projects only a couple blocks from the office, we can't stay away! Stay tuned!

We hope you have a strong start to 2018! Please contact us if there is any way we can help you.

Best.
