July 2017

Congratulations to all the winners of this year's Matsumoto Prize! The crop of projects was strong this year, and we were excited to be in the mix. We have some wonderful new work, and the entire Triangle seems to be buzzing with activity - it is going to be a great fall!

Retreat!

We capped off a great year of architecture on Friday in Durham with our annual studio retreat. Some of the highlights included incredible food at Scratch and Dashi, a tour of the new West Campus Union by Grimshaw, climbing the Duke Chapel Spire, and a lively conversation about our office culture, mission and vision. The night was capped with a potluck dinner with family and friends and great conversation around the fire pit at Matt's recently renovated house. What a day!

NCMA

We are excited to announce that we've been selected as designers for the museum park visitor center at the North Carolina Museum of Art! The structure will provide restroom and concession facilities for park patrons and include areas for people to engage the park landscape. We've teamed up with a great group of consultants, including Surface678The Site GroupStanford White, and Lynch Mykins. We get started in August and can't wait!

HUUS

With framing nearly complete, HUUS is beginning to take shape in West Raleigh. Nestled in an established neighborhood near NCSU, the house will be equal parts perch and refuge for an expatriate family. Southeastern Properties has done a great job thus far, and we can't wait to see the details come to life this fall.

NCSU Update

Congratulations to our good friend David Hill, who was recented appointed Head of the School of Architecture at NCSU. Since joining the school full-time in 2007, David has been an advocate for students and a leader in good design. We have had the privilege of working with him on several competitions, including the HOME competitionand the Mobile School for Burmese Refugees. David is an incredible talent and resource for our school and city. Matt and Zach will both be teaching at the school this fall, with Matt teaching the comprehensive studio and Zach teaching the environment studio. If you are ever interested in seeing the school and what goes on there, please let us know.

Ocotea on Dwell | Taylor on ArchDaily

Two of our recent projects appeared on prominent architecture websites last week - the Ocotea Renovation was featured by dwell, and the Taylor Residence was featured on ArchDaily. What the articles do not mention are the wonderful clients whose ideas and interests inspire the work we do - thanks, Joey, Ryan, and Tessa! Go check out the articles! Photo credits © Keith Isaacs.

Book of the Month: RCR Arquitectes 2012 - 2017 - El croquis 190

Our Book of the Month is the latest monograph of work from Pritzer Prize winning architects, RCR. The book features newly published work, including the absolutely stunning crematorium in Holsbeek, Belgium. The project, like so much of their work, does a terrific job of tracing a concept through every stage of the project, from site sketches to construction details.  Hopefully we won't have to wait another five years for their next publication!

Please contact us if there is any way we can help you.

Best.
