November 2018

Happy Thanksgiving from in situ studio!

We are cranking away on a number of big deadlines through the end of the year, including our final submission for the NCMA Art Park Visitor Center and a schematic design submission for the Eno River State Park Visitor Center. We have much to be thankful for!

Here are a few other exciting pieces of news:

Frank Harmon at So & So Books

We are thrilled that Frank Harmon is doing a reading and book signing for his new book, Native Places: Drawing as a Way to See, at So & So Books, in our shared studio/retail space. The event is tomorrow, 12 01 18, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Erin will be introducing Frank, and we expect a full house. Don't be late!

Crane Fly

The Allin Residence, also known as Crane Fly, is underway in Orange County! We've had a wonderful time working with our clients, Lysaght & Associates, and Gregg Bleam to design a complex of buildings joined by a single roof and sited in response to the topography, a nearby field, views into Duke Forest, and New Hope Creek. Durham Potter of Builders Unlimited is off to a roaring start, with foundations completed last week. The house is made entirely of concrete, stone, wood, and steel and features a CLT roof structure. Stay tuned for updates on this project as construction progresses!

We've been working with artspace in downtown Raleigh over the past several months to envision an overhaul of their historic building that will serve to refresh their mission of allowing the public to engage with artists and enhance their robust educational programs. Our work with the staff to date has focused on creating greater visibility for the activities they support and rethinking various modes of interface between the public, artists, and staff. Artspace is known throughout the region as leader in promoting public engagement with the visual arts. Please consider supporting their important work.

Highlands Cabins

We are excited to be working on a project in Highlands, NC with an amazing out-of-state client who has a vision of creating weekend getaway cabins in the woods, along a beautiful creek. The site has already been prepared in order to install a driveway and culvert, and construction on the first phase is scheduled to begin in the spring. Please contact us to learn more about how you can rent a modern cabin in the woods on your next trip to Highlands!
